So, I have this hemochromatosis. And with is comes another problem. One that there is medication for. So I asked my doctor about it, and he wrote me a prescription for it. I take the prescription up to Walgreens, come back in an hour, and the lady tells me "you need preauthorization for this medication."
What?
if my doctor prescribed it, isn't that authorization? Apparently not.
So the doc has to call the insurance company and tell them "yes, he really needs it" which takes like 2 or 3 days and about 15 phone calls to the doctor. S
So then i go to pick it up, and the lady tells me, its authorized, but insurance won't pay for it. So 8 pills are going to cost me $100. Wait a minute. The doc prescribes, preauthorizes and insurance STILL won't pay for it? What the heck?
So, I find out there is an alternative drug the insurance will pay for. i get a new prescription, take it to the pharmacy, come back to pick up.. guess what... "we need preauthorization"
ARG!
