Lot of news out there about the possibility of the world ending tomorrow, May 21 at 6pm. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google it... I'm too lazy to explain.
Anyhow, lots of people are talking about it. Some of the guys I work with are all pumped about the coming Zombie Apocalypse. A church in Sherman is having a (not the) End of the World party. And, some nuts are out there selling their homes and spending all their thinking that they won't need them after tomorrow.
And, I keep thinking... maybe the world will end tomorrow. Or, I could die today. I mean, I could die in my sleep. I could be killed in a head on collision with a drunk driver. I could have a massive heart attack while sitting here, right now, or get hit by a truck while crossing the street.
Morbid thoughts, eh?
So my question out of all of this is: Are you ready? You are going to die someday. It could be today, it could be 50 years from now, but it is going to happen. Are you ready? And I don't just mean in an evangelical "are you ready to meet Jesus" way (although that question is important to me and I hope that you are...) but in other practical ways too.
Do you have a will?
Have you written letters to your kids letting them know, one last time, that you love them?
Does your spouse know your passwords?
Does your spouse know where your money is and how to get to it?
If you pay the bills, does your spouse know how you do it? Online? Snail mail? Auto-draft?
Does your family know what kind of funeral you'd like?
My brother died recently and all of these questions came up. I realized that I was very not ready to die. That was in December, and I made a deal with myself to get ready. And guess what? I'm no where near ready... But I'm working on it.
