1 Class Down, 7 To Go!

It's been two months and a day since my last seminary post, and I'm happy to say I'm done with Old Testament!  We have a one week break (which is pretty much over at this point) and I start New Testament on Monday (Oct. 1).  I'm flying up to Nashotah this Saturday to settle in before class starts.

So, now that I'm one class in I feel like I can survive this.  It was a tough 12 weeks.  LOTS of reading, as I've mentioned before.  We also had conversations online, which were tough for me many weeks.  We only had maybe 5 people in our class, and only a few were very active on the board.  We had to post a response to a question and then respond to a few of our classmates' responses.  It wasn't always the easiest thing for a couple of reasons.  One, sometimes the answer to the question didn't really need a response beyond "yes, thats right" or something along those lines.  Sometimes people posted really thought out intellectual posts that were tough to respond to as well.  Anyhow, we (as a class) made it through OK I think.

The papers we had to write were pretty tough, and I wish I could tell you how I did, but even though class is over, we haven't received one grade yet for any of the work we've done.  Hopefully, I won't be a few weeks into New Testament and find out I somehow bombed Old Testament.

Our final was to take 100 of what we considered the "essential" chapters of the Old Testament and list them, along with a sentence or two why we picked them. If that sounds hard, let me tell you, it was harder than that.

So, anyway, looking forward to New Testament next week.  My colleague who has taken the class and had the teacher before says that he is a great guy and funny.  His syllabus, however scares me... its one of those "if you do everything asked of you, you'll get a B.  A's are for those who go above and beyond" kind of things.  Great for those of us with kids, multiple jobs and responsibilities.

I'm looking forward to the weather.  It is going to be much cooler there, though I have noticed that it has warmed up since last week, which had more days in the low 30s.

We have a couple of more textbooks this time than last time, but a lot less Bible to read, as the New Testament is much shorter than the Old.  Now, if my books (ordered from Amazon over a week ago) would just come in, that'd be great!

More to come!
